For five years, we have honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country during the events of 9/11. We also pay tribute to our veterans from the Global War on Terror with a "Memorial Ruck." This event allows us to gather as a community and reflect on the values that unite us. In past years, we have seen over 1,500 participants come together, reinforcing our commitment to these heroes.
A Day of Healing and Celebration
The Freedom Festival represents more than just remembrance; it symbolizes the healing journey our nation has undergone since the attacks on September 11. One of the main purposes of the Freedom Festival is to raise funds for the Blue Collar and Combat Boots Program. This essential initiative assists local veteran families with necessary construction repairs and home improvements. For instance, in the past year alone, the program has helped over 30 families achieve safe and comfortable living conditions.
In addition to the Blue Collar and Combat Boots Program, we will direct a portion of funds raised to the Indian River State College Veteran Fund. This fund offers critical support to veterans during times of crisis, ensuring they have access to resources needed for a successful transition into civilian life.
We will also present a contribution of $1,000 to the top JROTC competition winner, demonstrating our commitment to the youth in our community. By investing in the next generation through JROTC, we promote a culture of responsibility, discipline, and service.
Giving Back to the Community
Beyond fundraising, the Freedom Festival integrates a robust component of giving back. We invite attendees to bring food, clothing, school supplies, hygiene items, and baby products to support underfunded programs tackling homelessness and poverty.
Last year, we collected over 2,000 items that made a genuine difference in the lives of many local families. By joining together for the Freedom Festival, we can address pressing issues faced by our neighbors, reinforcing the message that together, we are stronger.
